Grundverschiedene Ansätze zur Rolle der Partitur und der Musiker:innen haben die vier Komponistinnen dieses Konzerts gewählt: Matana Roberts hat eine konzeptuelle Partitur

geschaffen als jüngstes Werk ihrer I call America-Reihe über US-amerikanische Identität im 21. Jahrhundert. Während Clara Iannottas Partitur für das Orchester bis ins kleinste Detail ausnotiert ist, haben die beiden Solist:innen ihre Partien selbst mitentworfen. Éliane Radigue schließlich, die mit 91 Jahren gemeinsam mit Carol Robinson zum ersten Mal für Orchester komponiert, verzichtet völlig auf Partituren und lädt die Musiker:innen zu ihrem charakteristischen Modus der künstlerischen Zusammenarbeit durch orale Überlieferung ein.

The four composers of this concert have chosen completely different approaches to the relationships of musicians and score: Matana Roberts has created a new conceptual score

piece, the latest in their I call America series of works on American identity in the 21st century. Clara Iannotta’s orchestra score is notated to the finest detail, yet the two soloists cowrote their own parts. Finally, at the age of 91, Éliane Radigue, together with Carol Robinson, composes for orchestra for the first time. Abstaining entirely from a notated score, she invites the orchestral musicians to participate in her signature process of artistic collaboration through oral transmission.
